Jazz Events Community
We dance to live swing jazz music! Every Friday evening, our community and newcomers are welcome to dance to live music. By bringing people together to groove, we keep swing dance alive. These events are facilitated by the Kompaszaal and the help of our volunteers. The Kompaszaal provides a beautiful space for us to dance in. During these events, musicians get a stage to show their art.
Our Activities
We organise weekly live music dancing on Friday nights, from September through May! From June until August, we dance outside in the Oosterpark, and organise parties in the open air as well. Three times a year, our three-day festivals take place, where people can dance and listen to live jazz music all day. All our activities are donation-based, our solidarity policy means that we suggest a price, but people pay what they can.
Our History
8 years ago, we started a small live music dance community in the center of Amsterdam, in Tussen de Bogen. Two years later, we got the possibility to be hosted by the Kompaszaal, due to the personal relationship between our founder, Teodora Kasabova, and the community.
Teodora used to be a corporate lawyer, when she fell in love with swing jazz music. She started organising live music dance get-togethers, once a month, where she was also baking cakes for the community. Out of love for swing music and dance, she decided to keep supporting live music dancing. So, she started a dance school, which facilitates dance classes every week. The dance school, Swing Philosophy, is located at the beautiful Kompaszaal. Swing Philosophy subsidizes the Jazz Events Community, by advertising our activities under its students.
